Meet the Doctor
Angela Bookout, DO FAOCD is the founding director of Southern Institute of Dermatology. She is a board certified dermatologist practicing cosmetic, laser and dermatologic surgery.
Dr. Bookout received her Bachelor of Science degree from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas and was nominated for the United States Presidential Scholar Award during her final year of college.
Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Bookout conducted three years of biomedical research at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and Dynogen Pharmaceuticals in the Research Triangle Park.
Having obtained her medical degree from Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia with highest honors, she was awarded the Distinguished Student Scholar Award. She went on to complete internship at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio and residency at Nova Southeastern University at Florida’s Largo Medical Center. There she served as Chief Resident, and in her final year received both the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Preceptorship Grant and the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology Residency Leadership Award.
Dr. Bookout enjoys fine dining, collecting local art, and listening to live music.
Mohs surgery is most commonly used to treat basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
During Mohs surgery, layers of cancer-containing skin are progressively removed and examined microscopically until only cancer-free tissue remains.
